Introduction

This high-level GLOMACS training course focuses on one of the most important enablers for success and protectors of value in the oil and gas sector: Government Relations.

According to a 2014 McKinsey report as much as 70% of value is at risk from above ground risks including political risk. 

Government relations includes the analysis and mitigation of political risks facing a business or project and the management of a wide range of stakeholders. These stakeholders include not only government at multiple levels (international, national, sub-national and local) but diverse other political stakeholders including state-owned companies, trade bodies, trade unions, NGOs and community representatives as well as many others.  A well-informed understanding of the risks and a strategic approach to stakeholder management can have a significant impact on the success or otherwise of an oil and gas project.

Objectives

Specifically, you will learn to:

  • Understand the agenda and drivers of stakeholders
  • Maximise the benefits of effective government relations in new country entry
